My QR code isn’t working
There could be a few reasons for this. Here's what to check…
1. Have you already used the QR code?
You can only have one BetterRoaming eSIM installed at a time. You may see an "Unable to Activate eSIM" error if you try scanning the QR code more than once. Check your SIM Card / Cellular settings to see if you already have a BetterRoaming eSIM installed by going to Settings > Mobile Data and check if the eSIM has still been installed. If you want to scan the QR code again, you first need to delete the existing eSIM. Follow
2. Do you have a stable internet connection?
Installing an eSIM requires a reliable internet connection. Make sure you're connected before scanning the QR code. For the best experience, install your BetterRoaming eSIM while you have a stable Wi-Fi connection. Once installed, you can access your plans and purchase new ones even without internet.
3. Did you unlock your phone?
For security reasons you need to unlock your phone first before you can scan the QR code with your camera. You cannot scan it from the Lock Screen.
4. Is your smartphone compatible with eSIMs?
Before you begin, check if your smartphone is eSIM-compatible. Most smartphones built after 2018 will be. However, for certainty, we recommend checking your device manufacturer’s website. Remember, your smartphone also needs to be unlocked to use an eSIM.
5. Try manual setup
If the QR code still won't scan, it might be a camera issue. Fortunately, our eSIMs can also be installed manually by entering an activation code instead. Here's how:
For iPhone:
1. Ensure you are connected to the internet
2. Go to Settings and click on Cellular/Mobile Data
3. Click on Add eSIM
4. Click on Use QR Code
5. Click on Enter Details Manually
6. Enter the following data and click on Next:
SM-DP+ Address: smdp.io
Code: QR-G-5C-KR-1PCDWP9
7. Click on Continue
8. Click on the link in the SMS you now receive to book a roaming package
For Android
1. Ensure you are connected to the internet
2. Go to Settings and click on Connections
3. Click on SIM Manager
4. Click on Add eSIM
5. Click on Scan QR Code from Service Provider
6. Click on Enter Activation Code
7. Enter the following data and click on Next:

8. Click on Add
9. Click on the link in the SMS you now receive to book a roaming package
