What is an eSIM?

First developed in 2012, eSIMs are now the standard SIM format in many modern smartphones instead of physical SIM cards. In essence, they are microchips that can store multiple SIM profiles on a single device, negating the need to physically switch cards when different services or network providers are required.

This can be useful when traveling between countries or changing between private and work phone numbers, for example. eSIMs work alongside SIM cards, and modern smartphones often support both eSIM and traditional SIM cards.
